Launch of Singapore HeritageFest 2014

Singapore HeritageFest 2014, the 11th edition of the Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) was officially launched on the 19th July 2014 at the inaugural River Nights at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM). Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, officially opened SHF 2014. Singapore HeritageFest 2014 is packed with many exciting and different heritage programs, walks and tours, the spotlight for SHF 2014 is on Singapore’s many islands, the theme “Our Islands, Our Home”.

Through 11 Festival Hubs and over 60 programmes, Singapore HeritageFest 2014 is the biggest edition of the festival till date, encouraging Singaporeans to participate and re-connect with Singapore’s history, heritage, culture and getting to know more about the lesser known tales of Singapore’s trading past. There was also a memorandum of understanding to establish a new S$500,000 Maritime Heritage Fund, signed between the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the National Heritage Board (NHB). This fund aims to raise the profile of Singapore’s maritime by promoting national pride in Singapore’s history and success as a maritime nation and her rich trading past.

Singapore HeritageFest 2014 runs from 18th July to 27th July, I am planning to participate/visit some of the programmes and exhibitions and share with my readers and followers here. There are really a lot to cover and visit within a week, there is definitely something for everybody! Do check out on the programme details, some programmes require prior online registration! Singapore is reaching a milestone of 50 years in the year 2015 and Singapore HeritageFest 2014 is an ideal festival to kick-start Singaporeans history, heritage and cultural awareness and understanding leading towards Singapore 50th year (SG50)!

The inaugural River Nights at the ACM on 18th and 19th July, showcasing the Singapore River and it was the opening event for Singapore HeritageFest 2014. River Nights celebrated the changing identity of Singapore River, from a trading post to a hub for local and international visitors, with her colourful nightlife of performances, activities, music, dance, play and food around the ACM.
