On 17th April 2024, the first day of CQ Streetfest at CQ @ Clarke Quay, I managed to catch two of the world-renowned street performing artists in action, Pancho Libre from Mexico and Richard Garaghty from Italy. They were talented, amazing and got the crowd at CQ @ Clarke Quay to participate and be a part of their performance too! Some of the children watching CQ Streetfest had great fun, just look at their enthusiasm and energy, with eyes wide opened, fascinated and excited as they watched the artists performed. When Pancho and Richard invited to be a part of their performances, you can see the children enjoying themselves a lot!

If you decide to add this island city-state to your travel bucket list, the next thing to do is to plan your visit. We’ve done all the work for you and put together a list containing the top 8 must-see attractions in Singapore. (Pro tip: Make your trip more convenient and hassle-free by storing your bags and other items at a luggage locker in the city.)

1. Marina Bay

The Marina Bay district is the epicenter for tourism and activity in Singapore and is one of the places that you should not miss while in the city. The area is home to some of Singapore’s main points of interest, such as the iconic Merlion Park, ArtScience Museum, and The Float stadium. 

The centerpiece of the area is the eye-catching Marina Bay Sands, a stunning resort-hotel complex that has everything from casinos, nightclubs, shops, and performance venues. Staying at the hotel can be quite expensive; if you want to experience luxury without booking a room, you can buy a ticket to the SkyPark, which will give you access to the observation deck and infinity pool.

Another one of the main draws in the district is a 250-acre urban jungle known as Gardens by the Bay. This beautiful green space is home to a variety of plant species and the largest indoor waterfall in the world. Don’t miss the Supertree Grove, where you will see a number of futuristic structures that perform various sustainable functions.

2. Singapore Zoo

Billed as the best rainforest zoo in the world, the Singapore Zoo is one attraction that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. The impressive zoo covers 28 hectares of space and is comprised of 11 zones, such as Frozen Tundra, Primate Kingdom, and Wild Africa. 

Unlike other zoos, the Singapore Zoo prides itself in its “open concept”, where the animals are not locked in cages and are instead placed in individually landscaped enclosures. The zoo has over 4,000 different animals, including the biggest colony of orangutans in the world as well as an extremely rare white tiger.

3. Sentosa Island

The beach isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when visiting Singapore but if you would like to enjoy some time under the sun, Sentosa Island is the perfect destination for you. This island resort is one of the most interesting areas in Singapore and is home to some fun attractions and entertainment spots. If you want some beach time or engage in water sports, you have three beaches to choose from – the Tanjong Beach, Siloso Beach, and Palawan Beach. If you want to watch incredible marine creatures in person, then the S.E.A. Aquarium is the place to go.

One of the major highlights at Sentosa is the Universal Studios Singapore, an amusement park arranged thematically, each of which is dedicated to a certain film, television show, or location. The theme park’s rides range from kid-friendly to daredevil; examples include Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, Battlestar Galactica, Revenge of the Mummy, and Shrek’s Far Far Away.

4. Orchard Road

Almost every major metropolis in the world has its own commercial avenue; for Singapore, they have the Orchard Road. The area, which once served as an orchard of fruit trees, spans over two kilometers and boasts an abundance of restaurants, malls, cafés, hotels, clubs, art galleries, and other major establishments. It is also considered Singapore’s ultimate shopping destination, featuring both luxury brands as well as discount outlets.

5. National Museum of Singapore

The National Museum of Singapore is the island’s biggest museum and is one of the most important cultural institutions in the city. Formerly known as the Singapore History Museum, the facility underwent a $118 million renovation and rebranding job and has since become more cutting-edge and immersive. 

The museum has two primary galleries – the first one is the Singapore History Gallery, which traces the island’s history from the 14th century until present day. The other gallery is the Singapore Living Galleries, which focuses on different lifestyle themes such as film, fashion, photography, and food. The facility also hosts a range of cultural events throughout the year, including art installations, film screenings, and festivals.

6. Clarke Quay

During the 19th century, Clarke Quay was the center of commerce in Singapore, and today, it remains one of the busiest commercial hubs in the city. Situated on the banks of the Singapore River, the area is a favorite hangout spot for both locals and tourists who want to spend a fun day of dining and entertainment by the waterfront. 

7. Singapore Botanic Gardens 

If you’re looking to experience actual nature while in the city, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is definitely worth a visit. Not to be confused with Gardens by the Bay, this 74-hectare green space was established in 1860 and has since been an oasis for those looking to get away from the busy city life.  

The garden, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts glassy lakes, lush greenery, and a range of themed gardens. One of the most renowned areas is the National Orchid Garden, which features the largest tropical orchid collection in the world with more than 1000 species and 2,000 hybrids.

8. Raffles Hotel Singapore

Located in Singapore’s Colonial District, the Raffles Hotel is not your ordinary hotel; apart from offering accommodations in the city, it also serves as a major landmark and is one of the few remaining 19th century hotels in the world. 

Constructed in 1887, Raffles Hotel has been known to provide luxurious services for over a century and has once welcomed the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Joseph Conrad, and Rudyard Kipling.

My first introduction and visit to Soi47 Thai Food was at their King George Avenue outlet in January 2021, I was treated to a fun and delicious birthday dinner by my cousin Brandon. The food was really delicious and it’s authentically cooked, I still remembered this particular Soi47 Thai Food dish- Steam Seabass with Thai Lime Sauce, upon tasting this Thai dish, it was just like having local Thai food in Thailand! 

Soi47 Thai Food recently opened a new outlet at Clarke Quay Central, they also have two other locations at King George Avenue and Lorong 6 Toa Payoh. My cousin Brandon brought me down to check out Soi47 Thai Food new outlet at Clarke Quay Central. Located at the second floor of Clarke Quay Central, you can spot them when you are at the lobby after alighting at the drop-off point.  

Upon entering Soi47 Thai Food at Clarke Quay, it has a cosy ambience, lively and well suited for families and group of friends looking to have a good Thai food experience and time there. They have a balcony space for outdoor dining too! It’s overlooking Singapore River, the feel of dining by the river might be attractive to some of you especially during the evening and night time.

Authentic and Delicious Thai Food at Soi47

When you flip through the menu at Soi47, you would be spoilt for choices, which Thai dishes should I choose to have? 

While some might choose to share Soi47 favourites/chef recommendations, I decided to do a different approach this time and share my selection of Thai dishes on the menu that I personally like a lot.

First and foremost, let’s start off with some yummy appetisers before heading into the main course meals!

Mango Salad

For someone that doesn’t really like to eat mango, when it comes to Thai Mango Salad, I would eat it! This is a very refreshing and delicious appetiser before your Thai food main course meals. I also found out from their menu that they have other varieties such as Mango Salad with Seafood and Mango Salad with Prawns, maybe I should try them next time.

Deep Fried Drumsticks with Garlic 

When my cousin WK and myself were there at Soi47 Clarke Quay, we found this dish Deep Fried Drumsticks with Garlic and we decided to order it. This is an excellent appetiser, highly recommended, delicious and addictive! This dish brought me back memories of my night street markets foodie adventures in Thailand!

Phad Thai with Chicken

My favourite Thai dish, it’s like my staple Thai food that I must have whenever I have the opportunity whether I am in Thailand or in Singapore eating Thai food. I really like the Chef’s Pad Thai cooking style, not too wet and not too dry too. Different regions in Thailand cook their Phad Thai slightly differently, thus I would give my favourite Thai dish that extra attention. 

Green Curry with Chicken 

This is an another well-known Thai dish, it’s well-liked by many Thai food fans I reckon. This soup base is creamy and fragrant, ddd. Pair up a bowl of Thai fragrant rice with this Green Curry with Chicken, just as wonderful for an individual meal or one of the many Thai dishes that you can share when you are out for communal dining with your family, relatives or friends.

Thai Basil Pork with Rice

A Thai food favourite that may not get the attention it deserves, this is like my alternate staple Thai food that I would have when I am not having Phad Thai or Thai Green Curry. More than just an authentic Thai food, it warms my heart and soul, as well as love for Thai food.  

Tom Yam Soup (Clear Style) with Seafood 

There are not too many places here in Singapore that serve Tom Yam Soup (Clear Style), the cream style Tom Yam Soup probably gets more attention and appeal. I missed this clear style Tom Yam Soup, it wasn’t too spicy for me, therefore this would suit diners who can’t take too spicy Tom Yam Soup (Clear Style).

Tom Yam Soup (Cream Style) with Seafood 

This is a well-known Thai dish, it’s well-liked by many Thai food fans I reckon. This soup base is creamy and fragrant, filled with fresh seafood and I really like their deep-fried fish slices. Pair up a bowl of Thai fragrant rice with this Tom Yam Soup (Cream Style) with Seafood, absolutely wonderful for an individual meal or one of the many Thai dishes that you can share when you are out for communal dining with your family, relatives or friends. 

Thai Iced Tea 

This is another of my favourite Thai food, I would always get a Thai Iced Tea, just like my staple Thai food Phad Thai. Their Thai Iced Tea is fragrant and wonderful, just like having an authentic Thai Iced Tea in Thailand.

Soi47 Thai Food does have its favourites/chef recommendations, you definitely have to try them or have a few of them in your selections when you visit them with your family, relatives, loved ones and friends.

An all-start female lineup of comedians in a stand-up showcase , featuring Japanese comedian and Youtube sensation Yumi Nagashima, top Indian comedian Aditi Mittal, and the Queen of Malaysian comedy Joanne Kam herself in a one night only hilarious and no holds barred night of female liberation and laughter.

The show produced by Kam, will be hosted by Hossan Leong and presented by Magner’s International Comedy Festival.

As the world increasingly embraces female empowerment, the comedy special is a celebration of achievements in gender equality. During their grand opening party, I had the opportunity to visit and experience Coyote Ugly Saloon at Clarke Quay Singapore. I was blown away by the bar top dancing by the local and international coyotes, sleek and hot dance moves on the bar top. They are definitely going to rock the entertainment scene in Singapore!

The history and rise of the Coyote Ugly Saloons around the world can be attributed to the original Coyote, Liliana ‘Lil’ Lovell. She was a 24 year old Wall Street Apprentice-turned-bartender in the year 1992, wanting to do things her own way, to own a bar, make money and have lots of fun. DJ and producer, Duumu, who has since reached over five million plays on Spotify and Soundcloud, will turn heads with his fresh take on electronic music. Joining him on the second night of Sound Port are some of the youngest breakthrough artists in Singapore. FOX The Walking Dead Halloween 2019 presented by Clarke Quay will see Singapore’s riverside entertainment landmark transform into a zombie colony complete with roaming walkers, set decorations, games and live music to thrill party-goers from the 31st of October to the 2nd of November. FOX The Walking Dead Halloween at Clarke Quay marks the much anticipated return of the series this October.

Cross the frontier into Clarke Quay at your very own risk of “turning” and immerse in a zombie-infested colony. Around Clarke Quay’s Fountain Square, set decorations and prosthetics that depict scenes from the TV series will allow fans to fully immerse in the horror of The Walking Dead experience whilst interacting with flesh-eating walkers. Partygoers will be able to go out of their limb and dive into a scavenger pit of severed body parts, take part in walker shoot-outs, try their hand at guessing the gruesome contents of a scare box, get some flesh-melting gore make-up done and capture the moment with friends at a photo booth. Survive, receive and collect at least 3 out of 5 stamps at these scare zones to win The Walking Dead Halloween merchandise.

No party is complete without music. On the final night of the Halloween instalment, superstars in the local music scene Khim Ng x The Mad Company will entertain audience from 8pm to 11pm with three sets of rock and pop. Together with Emcee Jeremy Yeo who will be there throughout the three nights to engage audience in lively interactive stage games, he will host the annual Clarke Quay “Best Dressed” horror costume competition on Saturday, 2nd November at 10pm, where the winner stands a chance to walk away $160 worth of Clarke Quay dining vouchers.

All around Clarke Quay, many epic Halloween themed parties will concurrently take place in numerous party venues such as Zouk (Fright Safari), The Riverhouse (The Haunted Mansion), Crossroads, Fclub x Attica SG, Get Juiced (Island of the Dolls)  and more. Be sure to save the date, come dressed in your zombie best and make Clarke Quay your one-stop Halloween party central.

I was at Spice World Hot Pot official opening last year 2018, had a great and delicious time tasting hotpot cuisine by Spice World Hot Pot, thanks to Hpility SG for bringing me there for Spice World Hot Pot official opening event.

For Spice World Hot Pot 1^st year anniversary, there are new dishes on their menu. First and foremost, introducing three new beef dishes

Bullish Day (牛气冲天 $36.90 )

A combination platter of different cuts of sliced beef, tripe and tongue, is every meat lover’s dream come true.

Traditional handmade beef balls (牛肉丸 $15.90)

Made fresh every day also make an entry in the already tantalising menu.

Tender Milk Beef (牛奶嫩牛肉 $15.90)

Made with sirloin slices marinated in milk and playfully presented on a plate embellished with a guardian Minotaur, complete with dry ice blowing out of its nostrils.

The Mermaid (美人鱼 $18.90)

The scion of the extremely popular Premium Barbie Beef Wagyu – is an entertaining presentation of Red Tilapia slices delicately arranged around a doll to form the shape of a mermaid. It allows diners to “undress” the doll before swishing the fish slices in the hotpot. A cute, break-the-ice moment takes place every time this dish is served.

US scallops (秘制带子 $19.90) and Australian hairy abalone (秘制毛贝 $12.90) per piece

Sustainably sourced from USA, marinated in 16 herbs and spices.Together with the scallops, they are exquisite pairings with the hot pot.

Bacon enoki wrap

A nice addition to the menu, it’s probably going to be one of the favourite dishes on the menu!

Milk Tea Hotpot

This is a very interesting hotpot creation! They are now a permanent addition into the Spice World Hot Pot menu! They have two choices the bubbly, chocolatey choice of Assam or Matcha milk tea.

The milk tea hotpot is is enjoyed with sweet and savoury toppings such as taro, purple sweet potatoes, pumpkin, yam, coconut and fruit jellies, mala bakwa and tender milk beef. Served with straws and slurped for a fun group experience, the Ying-Yang mala and Bubble Milk Tea hot pot combination goes for $39.90.

I managed to try both Assam and Matcha milk tea hotpot, personally for me, I would prefer the Assam flavour! Oh yes, it was an interesting and fun experience, drinking and slurping the milk tea hotpot with a straw. This would make a fun experience with your family, relatives or friends dining together at Spice World Hot Pot!

From 15 different restuarants participating at the The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival, visitors would be spoilt for gastronomic choices, there is something for everybody visiting this inagural outdoor pop-up dining festival at Clarke Quay!

From a special tasting price range of $10 to $32, visitors can taste and enjoy sample selected signature dishes and curated cocktails. The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival brings together the very best of international cuisine into a street food format that is fitting for Clarke Quay along the Singapore River. I visited The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival on the 5^th December, with the wide range of selected menu choices from 15 restaurants, I got the opportunity to taste a few of them and didn’t manage to try out all them! The food photographs that I shared were just the few cuisines that I managed to taste when I was visiting The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival on 5^th December!

Let me share some key cuisines to look out for at The Great Clarke Quay FEASTival –

Notable Asian cuisine must-tries include Tsui Wah’s signature pork chop buns ($7.50), East Treasure’s double boiled tonic soup with crocodile meat ($8), Ramen Keisuke Lobster King’s Ramen ($10) and Zouk’s RedTail Bar’s prawn twister with sweet Thai chili sauce ($12).

From the international selection, feast on pork knuckle sliders served with sauerkraut ($8) from newly opened Deutsclander, Bizengyu Japanese grade 3 Wagyu ($15) from The Ranch or Marisco Seafood Paella ($10) from Octapas. Popular street food tacos, burgers, sausages and wraps come in all taste and forms by Cask & Bangers, Cuba Libre, Harry’s Bar, McGettigan’s, Rodizio Do Brazil, Señor Taco, and The Pump Room.
