A smartphone photography exhibition featuring a collection of over 70 photographs from local photographers, content creators as well as user submitted entries, showcasing different perspectives of Singapore in the night. The modern smartphone has helped to evolve a new era of mobile/smartphone photography being easily accessible to many of us in our everyday life, from documenting to sharing our visual stories shot with the smartphone camera. 

“For many of us, nights are precious for us to connect with our loved ones and recharge after a long day at work. But for others, nights bring about a new energy where they can uncover or be reinvigorated by new experiences. 

With Sleepless in SG, we hope to show Singaporeans a different perspective of nightlife from the lens of photographers and creators using our Galaxy S22 Series 5G smartphone, where our popular Nightography has enabled many the ability to capture action in lowlight like never before,” said Sarah Chua, Vice President of Mobile eXperience, Samsung Electronics Singapore. 

Experience Sleepless in SG through the eyes, mind, soul and lens of Singapore-based visual creators with Galaxy S22 Series 5G devices

Sleepless in SG features renowned commercial Singapore photographer Geoff Ang (@geoffang), along with Kevin Ong (@kevouthere), Mindy Tan (@mindytanphoto) and Qi Hao (@qhventures), they have curated a series of shots capturing Singapore at its finest and darkest.

“Singapore at night has always been a special place for me – the colours, sights, and sounds are where the island-city is at its most vibrant. I’m honoured to be able to capture amazing night scenes with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G, which I was originally hesitant about given my purist approach with photography. Given the compact nature of the device, I was able to frame shots from any angle, and take pictures where I could never do with a conventional photography set-up,” Geoff Ang shared. 

Check out the works by Kevin, Mindy and Qi Hao as they showcased Singapore at night from their own different perspectives and views. Through their photographs, they hope to invoke a sense of curiosity and wonder of Singapore the island-city, how it looks like especially at the darkest moments in the evening/night from various views and perspectives of different people living in Singapore.

The Canon RF35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens is currently with me for a review. I brought it out for a photography walkabout in my local neighbourhood, it was just about enjoying and having fun, to capture the moments, surroundings and photographs that I conveyed my thoughts and feelings.

What do you see?

Do we always look beyond what see in front of us, to really understand what is happening or taking place behind the scenes? How often have we human beings just look at the surface and nothing else? How often have human beings just judge you just because they think they have the rights to do so?

Is the journey ahead a clear straight route?

Life is never smooth sailing, sometimes it can be a roller coaster ride or riding through a storm with choppy waves. Running a business is an experience that encompasses both scenarios. Like a broken recorder, this broken recorder is doing less repeat broadcasts on how running a business is that damn difficult and tough. You have to experience it for yourself.

There is always a light shining out for you

In the midst of darkness, we have to persevere, continue moving forward, towards the light at the end of the tunnel. There is always a light shining out for you, guiding and leading you out from the darkness. Keep on going, don’t give up.

Be patient, the waiting game

Some things in life, sometimes can’t be rushed. Yes, we can’t just sit and wait for things to drop down from the sky, we have to work for it and work on it. In life, in business, we have to be patient, thus the waiting game.

Cat therapy

There are people out there, who are friends turning into acquaintances because they have to be downgraded lower, for isolation and exile into frozen land. Cuddling and playing with my neighbourhood cats are so much better than talking to some humans whose full time righteous job is to judge people and put people down.
