History of Canon PowerShot

The inaugural Canon PowerShot was launched in July 1996, the PowerShot 600. Since the launch in 1996, the PowerShot lineup has expanded to cater to diverse user needs. The PowerShot series is developed for users to enjoy capturing high-quality photos and videos with greater ease. They are embraced by users of all levels from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Overall production volume of compact digital cameras including the IXUS series exceeded 200 million units in December 2025 worldwide.

Succeeding EOS R6 Mark II

The EOS R6 Mark III succeeds the EOS R6 Mark II that was released in 2023, the EOS R6 Mark III features a higher 32.5MP resolution, improved speed, performance, and reliability. It also incorporates powerful video capabilities that support professional workflows.

RF45mm f/1.2 STM

The RF45mm f/1.2 STM is Canon’s widest aperture non-professional lens in its RF lens lineup. This is a versatile and easy-to-use 45mm focal length on full-frame cameras, opening up accessibility of an f/1.2 lens to users. 

On APS-C cameras such as the EOS R50, users can expect a portrait-friendly 72mm full-frame equivalent focal length.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III

What are the new features and capabilities of the Canon EOS R6 Mark III that are empowering passion and unleashing possibilities? 

Higher Resolution and Speed

With the EOS R6 Mark III higher 32.5MP resolution, finer details can be captured in higher definition yet it also comes with more cropping flexibility. The higher megapixel count comes in useful when photographers have to do a close crop of faraway subjects.

The EOS R6 Mark III can capture up to approximately 150 shots when shooting up to 40fps in high-speed continuous shooting (electronic shutter) mode. Despite the higher processing load, it can maintain the same high-speed continuous shooting rate: up to 40 fps (electronic shutter) and up to 12fps (mechanical/electronic first-curtain shutter).

Capturing the Moment

The EOS R6 Mark III features a user-friendly pre-continuous shooting feature. Before the shutter button is fully pressed, up to 20 continuous shots can be recorded in any still recording format including RAW, C-RAW and HEIF, on any AF mode. Frames can be accessed for post-processing like any other image. 

Autofocus Algorithm Enhancements 

Autofocus algorithm enhancements offer more tenacious subject tracking, increasing the success rates when shooting difficult subjects and simplifying the post-shooting workflow. 

The EOS R6 Mark III also inherits the Register People Priority function also found in the flagship EOS R1, allowing pre-registered people to be prioritised for detection and tracking when shooting photos or videos in group situations such as events, concerts or team sports.

A Leap in Video Capabilities

For content creators, videographers, and filmmakers, the new improvements would be of interest to you. 

The EOS R6 Mark III offers more recording and post-production options that cater to different purpose and usage. It now supports 7K 60p internal RAW video recording to a CF-Express Type B card, it’s the first EOS R camera to offer 3:2 Open Gate recording (up to 7K 30p RAW).

This provides greater post-production flexibility for reframing, especially when creating horizontal and vertical videos fro the same footage. During 7K 60p RAW recording, users can also simultaneously record a MP4 proxy file or a 4K DCI Fine MP4 sub movie to its SD card slot.

Recording formats have been expanded, adding internal RAW recording, Canon Log 2 and the HLG gamma recording capabilities to the pre-existing Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ. Support for the Cinema EOS range’s Custom Picture (CP) profiles including custom LUTs help set recording options like gamma, colour sampling and bit depth for different workflow and delivery requirements.

Official LUT files can also be downloaded from the new Canon LUT Library. Additional custom LUT files can be easily imported to the EOS R6 Mark III via the Camera Connect smartphone app or recording media.

The EOS R6 Mark III supports waveform monitor display, like the EOS R5 Mark II, in addition to false colours and zebras to check and achieve accurate exposure on set. New features such as the AWB Response and Shockless WB enable seamless white balance transitions during video shooting regardless the AWB utilised or the white balance is manually adjusted.

During shooting, there are 14 Colour Filters that can be used to apply instant colour grading effects to stills or videos for quick output or to preview how the final video will look like. Additionally, there is a S&F mode that records up to 60x fast motion 4K video and 4x (4K) or 7.5x (2K DCI) slow motion video.

Innovative Camera Body 

The EOS R6 Mark III retains the basic operability, reliability and durable body design of the EOS R6 Mark II, with enhanced button customisation and improved ergonomics for handheld vertical shooting. 

It uses the LP-E6P battery pack and supports the BG-R20/EB-R20EP battery grip, which holds two batteries to power longer shoots and improves ergonomics for handheld vertical shooting.

Canon RF45mm f/1.2 STM

The Canon RF45mm f/1.2 STM is Canon’s first f/1.2 lens of its class, it is a compact, lightweight and affordable option for users who desire bokeh. This lens also delivers greater low light flexibility and AF support. The 45mm focal length allows users to capture a natural perspective, while moving seamlessly between wide environmental shots and intimate close ups – often with just a single step.

On APS-C cameras, this lens achieves a 72mm equivalent angle of view that is ideal for portraits, close-ups of objects and street photography. With the lens’ f/1.2 bokeh, users will find it easy to frame their storytelling in a defining manner. When stopped down to f/8, the lens delivers professional standard edge-to-edge sharpness.

The RF45mm f/1.2 STM eights approximately 346g, and is the smallest f/1.2 lens in both EF and RF lens range. This was made possible by the effective use of the PMo (plastic moulded) aspherical lens elements, gear-type STM technology with a magnetic detection system and digital lens correction. 

The compact, lightweight body complements full-frame cameras such as the EOS R6 Mark III and smaller APS-C cameras like the EOS R50, forming an excellent shoot combination for enhanced agility.

• Ensure your profile is public.
• Entries must be original, recent (within 12 months), and reflect one theme per post.

• Submitted photos and videos must be shot with any Sony Alpha camera and Sony lens, to be verified with a screenshot of EXIF data. Shooting with a G Master lens is encouraged, but optional.

I had a preview and short hands on experience with the DJI Air 3S in Singapore when it was announced in January 2025. Although I do not have many extensive drone flying experiences, I always wanted to add drone photography, drone videography / cinematography to my photography and content creation services. 

Flying the DJI Flip wasn’t too difficult for a beginner like myself, it was fun although I still have a lot to learn about drone flying. Check out fellow technology blogger Joe Teh of Techielobang TikTok video on the DJI Flip in action at the DJI Flip launch event.

With more hands on experiences and learning about DJI drone flying, starting from my DJI Air 3S coverage, followed by DJI Flip, I am still looking around adding a DJI drone to my photography and content creation services, I am looking at producing travel vlogs and potentially explore other business opportunities with drone photography, videography and cinematography. 

DJI also has another drone that caught my attention, DJI Neo with a very attractive price point. Therefore, I am considering the DJI Flip and DJI Neo, I have fellow techies, creatives, photographers, filmmakers and videographers sharing their DJI Flip and DJI Neo flying/content creation experiences with me.

Canon EOS R50 V: Powerful Professional Cinema EOS Features 

The Canon EOS R50 V is an interchangeable lens camera featuring a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor similar to the Super 35mm sensor used in cinema cameras such as the EOS C70.  This camera is designed for aspiring content creators who desire better operability and video production versatility. 

Canon Cinema EOS Features

The EOS R50 V is the first camera in its class to include several Cinema EOS features that advanced EOS R Series cameras like the EOS R1 possess. These consist of support for Custom Pictures and LUTs, two industry-standard HDR video recording modes (HDR PQ and HLG), usage of the XF-HEVC S / XF-AVC S recording formats, and professional display aids such as false colours. 

There is a new Slow & Fast Motion movies mode, which is an intuitive way to create Full HD and 4K slow motion movies that slow time down by up to 1/5x and 1/2.5x speed respectively, as well as produce 4K time lapse videos that speed up motion by up to 60x.

When combined with colour filters and the camera’s new Cinema View feature, which sets cinematic angles of view and frame rates, users can create stunning, expressive film-like movies. Full HD 100p/120p recording with audio is also available to expand slow motion post-processing possibilities.

EOS R50 V Audio

In terms of audio, the EOS R50 V is equipped with 3-mic noise reduction technology that detects and reduces unwanted noise from inside the camera. Support for LPCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input eases the post-processing workflow for projects with multiple audio sources such as interviews, outdoor takes with dialogue, and concerts.

Users shooting stills and video in crowded scenes such as events, concerts, and sports will benefit from the Register People Priority mode. Usually, found in more advanced camera models, the mode prioritises pre-registered individuals for detection and tracking.

Support for UVC and UAC 4K 60p live-streaming through a single USB-C cable to a PC makes it possible for users to live cast concerts and sporting events. This ensures smoother action and footage in vivid detail, making it ideal for viewing on a large home theatre screen. The EOS R50 V is compatible with the Live Switcher Mobile Multi-Camera app, allowing users to combine video streaming from the camera with those from other smart devices for multi-angle live-streaming.

Canon PowerShot V1: High-Quality Content in a Compact Form

The PowerShot V1 combines the video-centric concept of the PowerShot V10 with the versatility of the PowerShot G7 X Mark III—updated with a major boost in core features. Creators can now shoot higher-quality images and enjoy better low light capabilities with the new compact camera. PowerShot V1 is equipped with a larger 1.4-inch type image sensor, powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for PowerShot, and a built-in 3-stop ND filter useful for recording video in bright conditions. 

For video shooting, the PowerShot V1 has a native ISO range of up to 12,800, making it 2 stops wider than the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Additionally, there is a unique new Subject Tracking IS function that utilises the subject position to keep the subject stable in the frame during image stabilisation.

The EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1 are designed with lightweight, streamlined viewfinder-less camera bodies that are easily supported by grips and gimbals, allowing user fatigue to be reduced during long durations of handheld shooting. Additionally, it has key buttons designed for easy one-haded recording.

Canon EOS R50 V Video-Centric Ergonomics 

The EOS R50 V’s new video-centric button and control layout includes a movie-focused mode dial, dedicated buttons providing one-touch access to live-streaming and the colour modes, and a zoom lever for controlling the zoom on lenses. This zoom function can also be found on the new RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, Canon’s first lens with a built-in power zoom. It is also more optimised for vertical shooting as compared to any of its predecessors, with a vertical shooting tripod socket on the side, an auto-rotating shooting information display, a grip design and button layout. These allow users to easily start and stop recording even while recording vertically.

Canon PowerShot V1 Video-Centric Ergonomics

For the slim and portable PowerShot V1, there is a f/2.8 to f/4.5 ultra-wide angle zoom with a versatile 16-50mm equivalent focal range. This makes it ideal for diverse uses like vlogging, live-streaming, reels, or even short-form drama or documentary. It has an internal cooling fan, also found in professional cinema cameras, which disperses internal heat and allows longer periods of live-streaming and recording.

Rich Creative Features

The EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1 have plenty of features, making it easy for content creators to produce beautiful videos, such as the Smooth Skin mode and 14 colour filters. These enable users to easily transform the look of their videos straight out of the cameras. 

Additionally, the powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, useful Movie for Close-up Demos mode, and Movie Digital IS, will optimise focusing and image stabilisation allowing users to focus on content creation.  

Both cameras are equipped with recording modes to meet more advanced post-production needs like 10-bit Canon Log 3. This records a wider dynamic range suitable for colour grading, un-cropped high-quality oversampled 4K 30p videos and cropped 4K 60p videos; as well as slow motion up to Full HD 100p/120p. In addition, these two products come with still shooting modes and features including traditional PASM modes and support for RAW image shooting.

Enhanced Connectivity

Besides connecting to the Camera Connect smartphone app via Bluetooth/ USB-C, both cameras can be used as a webcam for live-streaming with a single USB-C connection to a PC.

RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ: First RF Lens with Built-in Power Zoom

The Canon RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens is their first-ever lens with built-in power zooming. This lens is compact and lightweight at around 6cm long and weighing about 181g. 

Users can perform controlled servo zooming on either the lens’ zoom ring, or the zoom lever found on the EOS R50 V. There are 15 speed values that can be selected in a 2-level switch operation. As for the zoom ring and zoom lever speeds, users can customise them separately. 

Remote zoom control via the Camera Connect smartphone app is also an option for creators. The fixed-length design keeps the centre of gravity consistent when zooming, an important feature when used with a gimbal or other similar equipment.

The lens is also equipped for handheld still and video shooting, offering up to 5 stops’ built-in image stabilisation for stills and 5-axis image stabilisation for video when operating a camera with Movie Digital IS. It also facilitates even more effective image stabilisation through Coordinated Control IS when paired with a camera with In-Body IS.

The lens provides a wide 22.4mm-equivalent angle of view at its wide end, providing better usability for video shooting when compared to conventional kit lenses. It zooms in to 30mm (48mm equivalent) at its long end, creating flattering, natural-looking tighter shots of faces. This end also offers the lens’ 0.15m closest focusing distance and 0.38x maximum magnification, which are ideal for showcasing products, details, and small subjects up close.

The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro features a next-generation 1/1.3” sensor with 2.4 μm pixel size and a high dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops. This makes it the first action camera with technical specifications that rival professional cameras. Images can be captured in 10-bit D-Log M and support hybrid log-gamma (HLG) high-brightness displays.

It can also shoot high-dynamic, low-light video at 4K/60fps, capturing intricate shadow details without overexposing highlights, thus enhancing overall image quality. There is also a SuperNight mode with AI noise reduction algorithms that can overcome the darkness in extremely low-light environments to yield cleaner and clearer footage.

Extended 4-hour battery life for longer shoots 

The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro delivers up to 4 ours of continuous usage with a single battery – 1 50% improvement from its predecessor. This new innovation is made possible with a lower power consumption 4nm chip, a larger 1950mAh battery, and a proprietary DJI algorithm that optimises for energy savings. 

Even in temperatures as low as -20° C (-4°F), the camera can reliably record video for up to 3.6 hours. The industry average for action camera battery life is approximately 2 hours. Moreover, the battery can deliver 2 hours of shooting from a 15-minute charge using the fast-charging DJI 30W USB-C Charger.

First in industry with built-in subject centring and tracking 

The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is the first action camera to offer built-in subject centring and tracking, allowing content creators to shoot without a gimbal. Powered with a high-performance 4nm chip and matching learning algorithms, this action camera can intelligently detect a subject’s position and dynamically adjust the composition to keep the subject centred in every frame.

Optimised for underwater photography 

If you are into waterspouts activities, the Osmo Action 5 Pro offers the industry’s deepest waterproofing depth at 20m without a case. The built-in temperature sensor captures true-to-life colours under the sea. This action camera ca also be set to start recording automatically while submerged and to stop after surfacing. 

It also has a built-in pressure gauge to record underwater depth, duration and altitude data to ensure the user’s safety. They are certified with EN13310, meeting globally recognised standards for diving accessories.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro features larger front and rear tempered glass touchscreens upgraded with OLED high-brightness displays. With an impressive peak brightness of 1000 cd/㎡, daytime shooting becomes easier. 

By increasing the screen size and narrowing the bezels while retaining the camera body’s size, the screen-to-body ratio increased by 16% from its predecessor. 

Compatible with DJI OsmoAudio connectivity ecosystem

The Osmo Action 5 Pro can connect directly to the DJI Mic 2 Transmitter via Bluetooth, enabling ultra-high sampling-rate audio recording. I had the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro for a short period of time, bringing it out for events, outdoors trekking, exploring neighbourhoods in Singapore, shooting landscapes and sceneries.

DJI Air 3S Enhanced Dual-Camera – Take Unmatched Imagery 

The DJI Air 3S dual cameras improve on the 10-bit and ISO image quality, capturing videos and photos with even more breathtaking details than the current DJI Mavic 3 Pro. 

Even in normal colour mode, DJI Air 3S dual cameras can record 10-bit video using H.265 encoding, delivering refined colour performance and greater flexibility in post, with the maximum ISO raised to 12,800.

Short Hands on Experience with the DJI Air 3S

I had a preview and short hands on experience with the DJI Air 3S in Singapore when it was announced in October 2024. Although I do not have many extensive drone flying experiences, I always wanted to add drone photography, drone videography / cinematography to my photography and content creation services. 

Although I put my microSD card into the DJI Air 3S, flew the drone for my short hands on flight, my inexperiences showed as I didn’t record the drone aerial footage on the microSD card, it got recorded into the DJI Air 3S instead. 

However, fellow technology blogger Joe Teh of Techielobang produced this YouTube video, that would showcased the capabilities of the DJI Air 3S during the preview and hands on session.

Down the road, I am looking at adding a DJI drone to my photography and content creation services, I am looking at producing travel vlogs and potentially explore other business opportunities with drone photography, videography and cinematography. 

I am going to share more about DJI drones, I am also planning to do DJI drone reviews too. However, I am going to start learning from scratch, from the most basic beginner drone level before moving up to the mid-tier level drones.
