Running a small photography business, together with content creation and social media marketing has been very difficult in this year 2025 till date, the stress and pressure were immense. Not just us, chatting with small and medium-sized businesses from other industries, we are facing a slow and difficult local market situation.  

Personal SG60 Visual Storytelling Journey and Project 

In a difficult and challenging year 2025, I spent time on my visual storytelling and personal projects, a form of photography therapy, a buffer and a getaway from my business side of photography.

Using SG60 as an integral and broad theme, I embarked on my personal SG60 visual storytelling journey and project. It’s still ongoing, accumulating my different photographs from various genres together before curation and planning how I would want to present it in a physical format (current direction is a 60 curated photos SG60 theme zine).

I won’t know how my personal SG60 visual storytelling journey and project would turn out in the end. Maybe that might be the best for me, not placing too much expectations, time to let my own creative style and visual storytelling style to be further discovered. 

SG60 Themes Photography Competitions/Contests 

There photography competitions/contests in 2025 were mainly SG60 theme. Since I am already working on my personal SG60 visual storytelling journey and project, why not join those competitions/contests and see how it goes? 

I had a fun and fruitful time with the various SG60 themes photography competitions/contests. One of my key highlights till date in 2025 was at the 20th Ngee Ann Photographic Exhibition (NAPE) 2025 whereby I had a photograph printed and on display! 

During this SG60 journey, I found myself going back to my Singapore heartland adventures exploration again, something I have missed a lot. There are a few more ongoing SG60 themes photography competitions/contests, I would share more updates down the road.

Arts, Culture, History and Heritage 

On a personal note, the arts, culture, history and heritage are sectors/genres that I wanted to do more in my own personal ways as a visual storyteller/photographer. Till date in 2025, I am adding more visual storytelling in arts, culture, history and heritage. 

This journey had been getting more fulfilling and therapeutic too (especially on arts related genres).

Changes, Growth and Future beyond SG60

While we are facing new challenges, difficulties and uncertainties ahead, we also count our blessings, grateful and thankful. Facing more than just rapid changes and disruptions to the world economy and technology world, we must remain agile, nimble, ready for changes, adaption and adoption as we ride out a new world of uncertainties and challenges ahead.

Singapore is still a relatively young nation, compared to many established countries and societies around the world. We have make significant economic progress and growth in 60 years of independence till date. We are definitely not perfect, we have our fair share of likes and dislikes, quarrels and ranting. 

On our birthday list, we would like to have more meaningful changes, opening up for more interactive and direct discussions, and where we can work, grow and move forward together.

I would continue to pursue my personal visual storytelling projects, besides my photography business, content creation and social media marketing work, capturing and documenting Singapore’s journey ahead. 

This form of personal visual storytelling is intrinsically enriching, fulfilling, also a form of photography therapy and getaway.

For NDP 2024 rehearsals, I started from the combined rehearsals CR1 to CR2, followed by National Education (NE) shows NE1 to NE4, Preview 1 and Preview 2, covering different locations around Marina Bay Singapore, capturing different views, TD40 Dynamic Defence Display and crowd favourite fireworks display lighting up the Marina Bay Singapore night skyline.

Once again, I would like to wish Singapore a Happy 59th Birthday and to fellow Singaporeans a Happy National Day 2024 celebration and festivities! While we celebrate Singapore’s birthday and achievements, we also need to take stock of ourselves on all levels, unite together and move Forward SG, writing a new chapter for ourselves.

Leading up to 9th August 2023, Singapore had been preparing for National Day Parade (NDP) 2023 with many rehearsals building up for this very important NDP 2023 event. I started photographing the NDP 2023 rehearsals, starting from combined rehearsal (CR) 1 in June 2023 to National Education (NE) shows and NDP 2023 Preview 1 and 2, with my Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera that entered into my setup in May 2023. 

The series of NDP 2023 photographs below were taken over from NDP CR1 to Preview 2, taken across various locations around Marina Bay, while the RSAF55 Island Fly Past was shot in the Singapore heartlands.

Starting with a crowd favourite, the Red Lions parachuting from above the Marina Bay skyline and landing at the Padang. The traditional Singapore State Flag Flypast, RSAF Enhanced “Salute-To-The-Nation”, the traditional 21 gun salute, followed by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) 55th anniversary amazing enhanced Aerial Display, and not to forget the crowd favourite fireworks at Marina Bay!

TGH Photography x Canon EOS R6 Mark II Explorer Series Production

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II has recently been added to my photography setup, with my Canon EOS 1D X Mark II making way for my new camera. Although I missed my Canon EOS 1D X Mark II, the iconic 1D series that I started to build my photography and visual storytelling. 

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is amazing with its fast and accurate AF, high FPS, high ISO level control and quality, excellent sensor and processing engine. While I do miss the battery grip of the 1D series, the overall excellence and quality of the Canon EOS R6 Mark II is not making me miss my 1D series as much as I would thought I would be. 

Exploring and Visiting Arts

Exploring and visiting arts around Singapore with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, it had been a great form of artistic enjoyment and therapy, away from my writing, social media and photography work. Igniting my spark on a new wave at i Light Singapore 2023, SYSNMH Wan Qing Dragon Boat Festival Open House 2023, following House of VSE Your Neighbour Artist Exhibition around Singapore (and still ongoing), heritage and cultural events Qixi Festival and NHB Racial Harmony Day 2023. 

Exploring my own backyard

The months of June to July 2023 are usually scheduled with NDP 2023 rehearsals taking place on the weekends, allowing us to photograph the NDP 2023 rehearsals action and fireworks taking place around the Marina Bay area. The NDP 2023 rehearsals were an excellent opportunity to put the Canon EOS R6 Mark II to the test.

I was also exploring the new HDB blocks in my neighbourhood, discovering new sky parks and views. Besides that, I was also chasing sunsets and super moon with a super telephoto zoom lens Sigma 150-600mm.  

Of course, getting into outdoors and nature, it had always been a form of therapy and relaxation for me. Sometimes, adding wildlife photography into my outdoors outing and exploration together as well. 

Always on the lookout for value for money 2nd hand camera accessories  

I am always on the lookout for value for money 2nd hand camera accessories and peripherals. Some of them were slowly added over time to build up my setup, while some were replacements for my photography accessories.  

I discovered this brand Wotancraft not too long ago, I admired its quality, as well as how much consideration they placed on the designs and concepts around photographers and travellers. I got myself a Wotancraft Trooper (Medium) as my own birthday gift earlier in Q1 2023.

I had invested in a number of Think Tank products, although I gave away my Shape Shifter version 1, I found a Naked Think Tank Shape Shifter 17 v2.0 at a good price and I quickly grabbed this opportunity. Since I am expanding my Think Tank setup, I have also added more different types of Think Tank pouches along the way. 

Leofoto – A brand that I have also discovered and looking into. They have a great range of quality products for photographers. The first product that I got was the Leofoto MC-50 clamp. Moving forward, I am planning to add a few more products from Leofoto!

“Forget it and move on”

I took a break from social media for a few days, as I was feeling disappointed in something that only very few people will know what happened. 

“Forget it and move on”, an advice that was shared with me. 

Therefore, I will continue with my ongoing work, craft and visual storytelling, seeking progression and improvements in my journey.

Due to the ongoing global pandemic COVID-19 situation, NDP 2021 had been scaled down with a ceremonial parade at Marina Bay in the morning. This was followed by two Chinook helicopters carrying the Singapore Flag, each escorted by a pair of Apache helicopters, on a flypast and six F-15SG fighter aircraft flypast in delta formation around Singapore into the heartlands, NDP 2021 in the heartlands above Singapore.

Prior to the NDP 2018 parade this evening, I wrote and published an article on my personal website/blog, containing my thoughts and feelings for Singapore on her 53rd birthday. Just so much thoughts, feelings and emotions inside my article, I hope that we can strive to make Singapore a better place to live and work in, for the future generations and beyond. There were times when I wanted to add more thoughts, feelings and emotions inside my earlier article, I would just leave it as it is for now.
