ChefGenie – Singapore’s first AI-powered automated kitchen solution

ArtiChefGenie is Singapore’s first AI-powered automated kitchen solution, setting the stage for new era of food innovation in Singapore.

They are supported by EnterpriseSG, embarking on a 6-month F&B autonomous kitchen pilot around Singapore with local F&B brands. This pilot programme aims to trial autonomous kitchens as a manpower-lean format of expansion for F&B companies, and increase consumer receptivity towards those concepts.

This pilot programme was recently launched on 9th September 2025, at Punggol Digital District (PDD) by Guest of Honour, Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community, and Youth. The PDD is a testbed for smart solutions spanning JTC’s business park, the Singapore Institute of Technology, Punggol Coast Mall, public transport nodes and community amenities, enabling a diverse community to try out ChefGenie’s offerings.

Bringing World Flavours to Life with Precision and Consistent Quality at SG 1st Autonomous International Food Fair

At Singapore first autonomous international food fair, ChefGenie is bringing world flavours to life with precision and consistent quality. This event features eight homegrown brands, including Warong Pak Sapari (MICHELIN Bib Gourmand), Springleaf Prata (MICHELIN recommended), Eat Pizza, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Takagi Ramen, Tuk Tuk Cha, The Hainan Story, and Instachef.

From hand-pulled prata to slow-brewed laksa broth, delicate Japanese ramen to traditional Taiwanese street snacks, the diversity and complexity of these dishes are made possible through ChefGenie’s proprietary smart cooking technology. Thoughts and Views from ChefGenie Official Media Launch Event

At the ChefGenie official media launch event on 9th September 2025, hearing the speeches, checking out how ChefGenie works and tasting some of their cuisines on offer, learning and understanding more about how technology innovation such as AI, can play a role in the F&B industry. I have been covering and writing about AI technology on my TGH Technology and Business portal/blog, and I can now add AI technology innovation coverage in the F&B industry.

Vending machine food quality and choices of food offered has become better with ChefGenie AI-powered automated kitchen solution. They are not going to (and will not) replace other F&B businesses, instead they plug a gap in offering more F&B choices at various locations in Singapore, from residential, schools, public spaces to industrial areas.

Ordering the food via the food kiosk or from the app, collecting the freshly cooked food from the vending machine, it was smooth and easy. Some cuisine might take a bit more time though. For someone like me who doesn’t buy much food from vending machines, or those microwaved frozen meals, I was impressed by the quality and consistency of some of the food that I tasted. 

I ordered a Butashoga Ramen during the ChefGenie official media launch event, for a ramen fan myself, I had to see and taste it for myself how would ramen turn out from a vending machine. Check out the photos below, from collection to eating a hearty hot ramen straight-out from ChefGenie vending machine. The Butashoga Ramen was good, I enjoyed it. 

Overall, I wasn’t able to try all the different cuisines on offer by ChefGenie, I would love to try out the prata by Springleaf (as a prata fan myself) and many more different cuisines on offer. I would check the ChefGenie app for the locations, and I would try out a different cuisine (and do my own food tasting) if I do come across a ChefGenie vending machine.

MHC Hari Raya Open House AidilFEASTri Festival 2024 Theme: Food

The theme for MHC Hari Raya Open House 2024 is food. This year’s programmes will serve up a buffet of programmes, activities and displays showcasing the culinary traditions and intangible cultural heritage practices related to Hari Raya. The AidilFEASTri Festival 2024 programme highlights include a cooking demonstration with MasterChef Singapore finalist Chef IIya Fadhly, Teh Tarik making workshop by Tarik.SG, and a larger-than-life food replicas of iconic Hari Raya dishes such as mutton biryani, sayer lodeh, and assorted kueh. 

There are also other exciting programmes at this special edition MHC Hari Raya Open House which will explore the influences and commonalities between Malay and Indian culture, such as

My Coffee Made Simple Adventure with ROASTELIER by NESCAFÉ®

Not many people knew that I dreamt of opening my own cafe, I don’t share this much though.  They probably know about my love for coffee and how much coffee I drink.

Launched in October 2022, FZ Digital aims to be at the forefront of a robot enhanced F&B workforce while they strive to be the go-to resource for the best F&B technology solutions in Singapore. FZ Digital have partnered with CloudMinds and POSBANK to launch Singapore’s first F&B robotics and smart kiosks, pushing innovation and alleviate Singapore’s F&B labour crisis.

In this partnership, there are 2 AI robots, the Cloud Ginger Lite D Series and smart kiosks that were launched during FHA-HoReCa that took place from 25th to 28th October 2022, as part of the timely solution to address labour woes in the F&B industry and help F&B SMEs to maximise productivity and revenue, while allowing them to provide better customer service experience.

Implementing robotics in F&B establishments is estimated to save between 30%-70% on labour costs for restaurants, with many coming out of prototype phase and able to perform most, if not all of the tasks humans can (1). This will significantly reduce both dependency on human labour and labour costs. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Robots is a fast growing industry projected to be worth USD$4.3 billion globally by 2030 (2).

“The introduction of robotics into F&B is a much-needed step especially in recent times to push innovation and alleviating the many woes of the F&B industry. Manpower issues and labour shortages have become rampant in Singapore and worldwide, with the recovery of many restaurants and F&B outlets from the pandemic dampened by a stark struggle to hire staff. Many who left the country when borders shut have decided to not return, resulting in severe shortage and, consequently, higher costs to obtain and retain labour,” said Chris Tarr, Chief Product Officer of FZ Digital.

FZ Digital: Automating The Future

FZ Digital is automating the future for Singapore’s F&B industry, some might ask who are they, what’s their history? Here is their story:

1DERLIFE Growth, an acquisition company based in Singapore led by principal, Gregory Lee, acquired FoodZaps, a POS software company founded in 2014 with 200 F&B customers in Singapore and 300 in Malaysia. FZ Digital seeks to streamline and revolutionize the way the F&B industry works.

Chris Tarr is a veteran leader of new business and product innovation, with over 15 years of experience at Samsung, who has recently joined FZ Digital as its Chief Product Officer. As Regional Head of Mobile Services and Partnerships at Samsung, Chris brings extensive experience innovating and launching new mobile services across Southeast Asia. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and spent his early career as a senior software architect in numerous startups after graduating from MIT.

The 2 robotic stock-keeping units (SKUs) that will be officially launched during FHA-HoReCa are the D300 Circular Tray and D311 Square Cabinets automated food delivery robots. Both are equipped with an integrated auto navigation and obstacle system to run stably in complex situations. 

The robots used clever localisations and navigation based on 3D semantic map and multiple sensors, they have the ability to perceive their 3D environment to deliver food to diners quickly and safely. 

The installation is straightforward and takes places across three phases, namely:

1. Syncing the AI platform (the robots) to AI machine learning, programmed with modules to make the robots the first cloud-based robot solution
2. Digitally mapping and mirroring the real-time and virtual environment to the prototype to develop, test and train the robots on how to manoeuvre themselves
3. Installing and plugging the robots into actual physical environment to run

Based on the cloud communication and algorithm architecture, rapid decision-making and intelligent scheduling is carried out according to the urgency of the task to ensure the orderly operation of multiple robots. By interconnecting with other Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as elevators, access control, turnstiles, and telephones,  Ginger Lite can provide accurate delivery services autonomously.
