Let me share with you more information an details from the press release information below –

Canon recently introduced the latest addition to Canon’s EF-M range, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. The new lens complements the existing wide angle, pancake, and telephoto lenses available for the EOS M series of mirrorless compact cameras. Among other innovative features it brings, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is the world’s first macro lens with built-in Macro Lite, a feature which allows users to explore different depths and dimensions in macro photography with diverse light settings.

“The new EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM underscores Canon’s commitment to supporting the EOS M series of mirrorless cameras with an expanding lineup of complementary lenses,’’ said Edwin Teoh, Head of Marketing, Singapore Operations, Canon Singapore. “With innovative features such as the built-in Macro Lite feature which is a world’s first, we are confident that the new lens will widen the range of creative possibilities for photographers, and would prove to be appealing even for advanced DSLR users considering the EOS M range as a secondary camera.”

Illuminating a macro world

Lighting plays a crucial role in macro photography. The EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM with its built-in Macro Lite feature, will enable users to illuminate small subjects without any shadows. With this capability, users can take attractive shots of small subjects typical to food photography and insect photography, or even product shots for online retailing.

Coupled with its adjustable light direction and strength, photographers will find it easy to manipulate lighting situations to create their desired photo. Using the Macro Lite ON button on the side of the lens, users can choose to turn on left, right, or both lights, and control the intensity of light on each side, thereby creating a better sense of depth in their photos.

Getting up-close and personal

While most macro lenses can shoot small subjects at 1:1 life-size magnification, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is the first[1] autofocus lens capable of focusing at infinity in normal shooting, and provide 1.2x magnification in macro shooting. In its super Macro mode, users can shoot their subjects as close as 13mm from the end of the lens, which allows them to capture all the finer details and textures of their subject. The ability to capture these intricate details makes food photography and insect photography incredibly dynamic, and makes shooting small objects such as jewellery more dramatic.

As macro photography usually requires the photographer to get very close to the subject, a larger lens could cast an unwanted shadow. To address this limitation, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is designed with an acute lens top shape, with tapered edges to avoid casting shadows on the subject.

With the capability to shoot with focus at infinity, and the perspective of a 45mm equivalent standard lens, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM can deliver beyond macro photography. It can also be used for other types of shoots which require a natural angle of view and perspective, such as with portraits and nightscape shots.

Clearer and sharper photos

Equipped with the powerful Hybrid IS system, angle and shift camera shake can be countered on the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM, resulting in sharp photos even with handheld photography. This reduces the need for a tripod, which is usually required in professional macro photography set-ups. Similarly, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM’s Macro Lite feature reduces the need for external lamps, thus enabling users to achieve the same effect without needing extra equipment.

By incorporating a UD lens and two aspherical lenses, one of which is double-sided aspherical lens, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM effectively corrects chromatic and other types of aberration, resulting in outstanding optical performance with excellent edge-to-edge sharpness.

Compact and lightweight

Weighing a mere 130g and measuring 45.5mm when retracted, the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM stands as the world’s lightest[2] macro lens. Its compact size and portability reflects the key product traits of the EOS M series of mirrorless cameras, making it truly an everyday lens for daily moments.
