Sony recently announced new digital imaging offerings to their line up, adding to the spectrum of Sony cameras, lenses and applications available for photography enthusiasts and professionals. These include the following:
- Alpha 3000 – Features the APS-C Exmor™ sensor with 20.1 effective megapixels for pro-quality pictures and Full HD video
- NEX-5T – Ultra-compact interchangeable lens camera with large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and NFC for one-touch wireless connection with your smartphone
- Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS, E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS and E 50mm F1.8 E-Mount lenses – Three new lenses to achieve inspiring, artistic works for quality-conscious photographers
- PlayMemories Camera App – Availability of PlayMemories Camera App, the world’s first application download service, to more countries in Asia Pacific.
Alpha 3000
For photographers looking for a camera that has it all, they need not look further with the 3000. The 3000 comes with the picture quality, manual controls and artistic possibilities of a DSLR in an easy to use camera with interchangeable lenses.
Inside the 3000 is a large 20.1-megapixel Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor. The large sensor boosts sensitivity, which helps grab more light and cut image noise while delivering pristine pictures despite dark interior lightings. Framing scenes are also a pleasure with its electronic Tru-FinderTM with a generous 100% field coverage. The extra information displayed on the electronic viewfinder allows users to preview tweaks to exposure and white balance settings instantly, and lets them compose with even greater confidence.
The inspirational new 3000 is available in Singapore from late September 2013 onwards.
NEX-5T
The new NEX-5T from Sony packs pro-quality pictures and wireless freedom into a power packed, pocket-sized camera with the limitless creativity of interchangeable lenses. In addition to being Wi-Fi enabled, the NEX-5T is the first interchangeable lens E-mount camera fromSony with NFC. This gives users the extra convenience of One-touch wireless connection with Android smartphones and tablets for easy sharing of images, and even the ability to control their camera remotely.
Packed within the NEX-5T is an APS-C sensor with 16.1 effective megapixels which delivers DSLR- quality stills and Full HD videos, with ultra-low pictures noise and crisper twilight shots and atmospheric interiors. Its advanced Fast Hybrid AF also helps users to capture those split-second, spontaneous moments by combining phase-detection autofocus to track fast-moving subjects with contrast-detection AF for absolute precision. Finally, it comes with a 180° tiltable LCD screen for perfect photo-taking of “selfies”.
The new NEX-5T interchangeable lens camera is available in Singapore from late September 2013 onwards.
New E-Mount Lenses – Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS, E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS and E 50mm F1.8
The choice of E-mount interchangeable lenses grows with a versatile standard zoom by Carl Zeiss, together with Sony’s first ever G LensTMfor E-mount cameras and interchangeable lens camcorders, and a new black finish option for the popular E 50mm F1.8 portrait lens.
The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS (SEL1670Z) provides a functional 4x zoom range (24-105mm in 35mm full-frame equivalent), which makes the lens ideal for a wide range of everyday photo situations, from landscapes and portraits to informal snapshots. Unlike budget zooms that stop down at their tele end, maximum aperture remains a constant F4 at all focal lengths. This reduces the need for high ISO settings when zoomed in, and also allows the use of high shutter speeds to freeze fast-moving action.
The E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS (SELP18105G) is Sony’s first ever G lens for E-mount cameras and interchangeable lens camcorders. It covers a generous 5.8x zoom range – equivalent to 27-157.5mm (35mm full-frame equivalent) – that’s ideal for travel photography and general-purpose shooting. This all-rounded lens is also particularly suited for Full HD video shooting as it will ensure remarkably smooth, quiet autofocus and power zoom operation which will not disturb your subject.
In response to user demand, the E-mount 50mm F1.8 (SEL50F18) fixed-focal length lens is now available in a striking black finish to matchSony’s E-mount interchangeable lens cameras. This bright, wide-aperture prime lens is ideal for capturing atmospheric handheld portraits with flattering background defocus (bokeh).
All new lenses are ideal for use with E-mount mirrorless compact system cameras, as well the new 3000 and Handycam® NEX-VG900Eand NEX-VG30EH Full HD camcorders. The new SEL1670Z will be available in Singapore from October while the SEL50F18 E-mount lens will be available from September 2013 onwards. The new SELP18105G E-mount lenses will be available in Singapore from December onwards.
PlayMemories Camera Apps
Consumers will now be offered more ways to explore the functions and capabilities of their cameras with the introduction of Sony’s PlayMemories Camera Apps to more countries in Asia Pacific. PlayMemories Camera Apps will be made available in Singapore, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, and will be supported by the new NEX-5T interchangeable lens camera as well as the NEX-5R and NEX-6.
PlayMemories Camera Apps is the world’s first application download service that allows users to download and install new functions to boost their camera’s capabilities. Some tools available include “Direct Upload”, which allows users to upload photos taken with their cameras instantly to Facebook via Wi-Fi, as well as “Photo Retouch” which provides a generous palette of adjustments and post-shooting effects so that users can edit the images to their liking.
