Memoirs of Nanyang, a Siong Leng Musical Association’s production commissioned by Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. A spectacular, magical and beautiful peformance, an eye opener into a world of a unique and bold fusion of Nanyin music and Peranakan culture.
As you watched and immersed yourself into the heart, mind and soul of this immigrant in Singapore (going back in time to a much earlier generation) who came to Nanyang for a better life and married a local Malay woman. As his business flourished, he also had a good loving and happy family, a comfortable life. However, he still think about his family in his hometown.
In order to cheer him up, his grandchildren, came up with something special for their grandfather, a harmonious and special fusion of two polar genres, Nanyin and music of today’s era.
This family and love story, Memoirs of Nanyang, presented to you through this remarkable perfomance, a combination of 2,000 year old Nanyin music, meeting Malay music and Mandarin pop music, that would impress and amaze you on how different cultures and music are able to combine together, producing such an amazing musical performance, celebrating the spirit and essence of family, love, bonding and multiculturalism.
Be touched, be mesmerised, be awed, by Memoirs of Nanyang.
